A bracelet is essentially a piece of jewellery worn around the wrist for ornamentation purposes. This could be a band of cloth, leather or metal links that is wrapped around the wrist. Bracelets are donned both by men and women as well as kids. Shells, wood and rocks are also added as accessories to the bracelets for added appeal. Depending on the style and design, bracelets are divided into different types. These include bangle bracelets, expansion bracelets, cuff bracelets, beaded bracelets, charm bracelets, spiral bracelets and link bracelets.
Bangle bracelets are essentially solid in form, with no flexibility. These are usually smooth textured and set with or without stones. Glass bangle bracelets are the most common in this category. These are usually worn in pairs. These could be made of gold, silver, glass, wood, ferrous metals, plastic etc. An alternative design in bangle bracelet also consists of two or more very large curved links that form the bracelet instead of many small links. These larger links are known as bangles. These complement Indian ethnic attire as well as certain western outfits. The gold versions could be either plain or studded with precious and semi-precious stones such as diamonds, gems and pearls.
An expansion bracelet is particularly used in wrist watches and consists of a row of connected links. This version is specially designed to expand or stretch over the wearer's wrist and then it conveniently tightens and contracts on the wrist when released. Expansion bracelets come in various sizes and designs and usually blend perfectly with any Indian or western outfit. |
